Phone Booth Blues

Phone booths around the world are quickly disappearing. This one was taken in Italy about 10 years ago. It was taken with film and scanned into my computer.

Now that just about everyone has a cell phone, the telephone booth as we know it is an endangered species.

Too bad, as it was a comfy place to relax and make a phone call.

Today people make calls while they are walking down the street. In New York City if a person is walking he/she is likely to be talking on a cell phone. This always scares me upon initial thought as the first thing that comes to mind about these people is that they are talking to themselves.

This picture from Helen Levitt has to be one of my all time favorites.

I’ve got a super collection of phone booth photographs from around the world. If you’re interested in seeing them or purchasing them, just let me know at matthewbam@aol.com.
