There’s a very eerie sense to this picture. The green of the grass and its golden tops wave in the wind. The building is ominous. The windows of it boarded up. There is drabby repetition. Everything seems cold even though the weather was warm.
I’ve written about this place before. This is Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp just outside Berlin. It was a place where medical experimentation was practiced, where execution trials were carried out early in the war, practices that were later used in other concentration camps in Germany.
Today it’s open as a museum. If you go there, put on your walking shoes and plan on staying there for the entire day. There’s lots to see, most of it very troubling from the ovens that cooked people live to the medical experimentation room where they shot children up with drugs and then cut them up.by
