Freedom of the press and of speech has been a Western stalwart in text and image photography from political cartoons to campaign posters. By now everyone in the West knows what happened to 12 journalists (among others) at the office of Charlie Hebdo, a satirical magazine that has been known to make fun of religion and its symbolism.
I wondered all day how this news is presented in the Arab world because I really like finding out the views from both sides of an issue. Well, wonder no more because many Arab publications it isn’t news. In other words, today’s news about Paris isn’t heard or seen in many countries.
An eighties AIDS adage, Silence=Death, among many others (Sticks and stones can break your bones, but words will never hurt me) pop up in my mind.
